Outdoor Science Principal

Department: Science Education

Do you love implementing camp program and seeing kids experience wonder and awe in nature? Join our Outdoor Science Team! Do you enjoy facilitating the details of camp and seeing how your work directly impacts student’s lives? Are you interested in leading others in teaching and being outdoors? Our relationship based, nature oriented Outdoor Science Program exposes students to the wonder of nature through hands-on science lessons, adventure experiences, and team building. The Outdoor Science team is a group of Jesus loving outdoor enthusiasts that set aside several months to live in community and join us in our mission.

Position Objective

The Outdoor Science Principal assumes responsibility for overseeing staff, students, and teachers while implementing the daily details of the Outdoor Science Program and facilities. You will also assist in regular program duties, including team building and adventure activities, as well as additional guest group support responsibilities when outdoor science is not in session (additional support duties with facilities, housekeeping, food service, and adventure recreation. He/she will be responsible to model a genuine lifestyle of Christian discipleship in a manner consistent with Carolina Creek’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Ability to lead peers, school teachers, and students
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and problem solve
  • Familiar with risk management in an outdoor setting
  • Ability to relate to a variety of age groups and effectively communicate to teachers, school principals, peers, and students.
  • Familiar with Google Suite
  • Ability to work with a team with good judgment and decision making abilities.
  • Must be a punctual and responsible individual.
  • Must exhibit great interpersonal skills with people of all ages.

Outdoor Science Naturalist

Do you love seeing kids experience wonder and awe in nature? Join our Outdoor Science Team! Do you enjoy working with 5th grade public school students and impacting their lives? Are you interested in teaching and being outdoors? Our relationship based, nature oriented Outdoor Science Program exposes students to the wonder of nature through hands-on science lessons, adventure experiences, and team building. The Naturalist team is a group of Jesus loving outdoor enthusiasts that set aside several months to live in community and join us in our mission.

Naturalists live in an intentional, Christ centered community with one another in shared housing. Staff are invited to join a community built on authentic and hospitable relationships.

Naturalists receive excellent training in curriculum development and experiential education. Ongoing support from the administrative team as well as veteran staff members ensure that staff are “poured into” and supported.

  • Ability to relate to a variety of age groups and effectively manage a student group.
  • Ability to provide leadership skills and emotional and spiritual maturity.
  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture and through
    nature.

Retreat Staff

General Qualifications

The Retreat Staff Team Member must be a mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith. They must be fully in accordance with Carolina Creek Christian Camps (Carolina Creek) mission statement, and statement of beliefs; committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization. They must be of strong moral character and integrity. Must be able to fulfill all job responsibilities and physical demands, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Position Objective

The Retreat Staff Team Member will work in various capacities to help all guests at Carolina Creek know and experience the love of Jesus Christ.  Duties include but are not limited to: facilitating activities, serving meals and providing food service support such as dishroom and front-of-house activities, providing hospitality such as greeting, parking, giving tours, cleaning common areas, preparing housing areas and meeting rooms for use. They will assist with Programs run by Carolina Creek and may be asked to Team Lead, chaperone campers by sleeping in a cabin, participate in a drama, lead a small group Bible Study or games. They will assist all departments in preparing for summer camp operations (spring), and/or Lone Star Lights (fall.) They are responsible to model a genuine lifestyle of Christian discipleship in a manner consistent with Carolina Creek’s mission, vision and values.

 Key Job Accountabilities

  • Participate in regular corporate prayer, worship and Bible study.
  • Able to answer questions about Christian doctrines and belief from their own personal experience
  • Possess the ability to pray with and/or initiate prayer with staff members and guests.
  • Facilitate Carolina Creek adventure/recreation, aquatics, and target sports in a safe manner.Assist the Guest Experience Team in the logistics of arrival and departure of guest groups.
  • Assist the Guest Experience Team in the cleaning of dining halls, common areas, and cabins.
  • Assist the Kitchen Staff in serving meals, cleaning front-of-house, and doing dishes for all guest groups.
  • Assist the Program team in facilitation programs including helping as a team leader, facilitator, lifeguard or in any aspect of keynote sessions..

Outdoor Science Health Aide

The Outdoor Science team is a group of Jesus loving outdoor enthusiasts that set aside several months to live in community and join us in our mission.

Position Objective:

The Health Aide is responsible to assist, report to and support the Healthcare Supervisor with all health needs of Outdoor Science participants and staff, as well as facilitate adventure activities and administrative support of daily duties when camp is in session in a manner consistent with Carolina Creek’s mission, vision and values.

  • Ability to work with a team with good judgment and decision making abilities.
  • Must exhibit and demonstrate empathy and interpersonal skills with people of all ages.
  • Detail oriented with record keeping and charting skills.
  • Must be observant and attentive.
